BBC CUTS Shortwave to CHINA?

On January 26 the BBC World Service announce the cuts that would take place. Now some of the cuts I do agree with, but some on the other hand are just plain insane. Are you ready for this? The BBC World Service is cutting shortwave to China in Chinese.. Are they mad?

The reason for this were made on Newshour by Conservative MP Louise Bagshawe. She said the reason were that the Chinese Government "BLOCKS" these broadcasts. But they want to move to now uses like the internet. How will that bring in new listeners if the internet is controlled and blocked?

Here is a commentary from PCJ about these insane cuts. You can find it on the home page of PCJ www.pcjmedia.com

I was reading an article from the New York Times website about how the BBC is cutting World Service in some parts of the world including Europe and Asia. For more information, you can visit http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/27/world/europe/27bbc.html?_r=1&hp. In the story, the broadcaster's budget is also being cut by 25% along with laying off hundreds of employees. For a service that has over 180 million listeners a week, why is the BBC and the British government cutting back on broadcasts. Contrary to what some people say, shortwave is still an important medium to many parts of the world, especially where internet is just not possible.
